Mary Van Lieu : Looking for more of those good vibrations |
matters local and attendance at town council meetings has improved dramatically since the inauguration of James Kern III the town's new young mayor. The upcoming Nov.8th election for town council offers a stark choice for voters between retired school administrator and former mayor, Mary Van Lieu and the town's other former mayor Stephen Babinsky and whether or not the more recent upbeat feelings will continue. Retirement seems to have recharged Van Lieu who is eager to return to public service and float some new ideas on behalf of the town's beleaguered taxpayers. Her pleasant and cheerful demeanor certainly would be a welcome change from the dour old boys aura that has hung over this council for too many years. Her opponent, the hapless former mayor, Stephen Babinsky, has been a thorn in his own side due to his inability to control his foul temper and tongue which would almost be excusable if he had something to show for his 8 years as mayor rather than a talent for alienating most of the town's residents. In these troubled times, with many people facing severe economic hardships, voters will be looking for candidates who they feel can empathize with their concerns. On Nov. 8th, the voters of Pohatcong will be face a choice between two starkly different candidates. Can good vibrations prevail? I wouldn't bet against it.
Maybe a women will help bring some civility to town politics. I haven't gone to a township meeting this year, but I was pretty appalled at the unprofessional behavior of some of our elected officials in the past.
ReplyDeleteWe need someone on the council that will have the taxpayers in mind. I believe Mary Van Lieu will be a voice for the taxpayers. No longer should the township be a good ol boys club and run our township into the ground. We need a voice for change and a positive direction. We, the taxpayers, need answers. We need a decent place for our children to play. A school system with more than adequate education. Children actually having recess and not just to test scores. We need a change!
ReplyDeleteI would like to know what VanLieu did when she was on Council Last time. I do not believe anything much. Babinsky might be alittle rough around the edges but he has worked had for this Township and made a difference. I do not believe VanLieu can say the same. I would like to know if she agrees with Kern in trying to merge us with Phillipburg. That would be a sad day for all Pohatcong Residents!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is for the person who commented on the School System. That would need to be taken up with the School Board not the Township. Also I do believe that school is for LEARNING not recess.
ReplyDeleteBabinsky rough around the edges?! Thats an understatement... vote the bum out.
ReplyDeleteI would rather someone alittle harsh that gets the job done, then someone that smiles to your face but does nothing. Vote the Babinsky, the right choice.

ReplyDelete"I would like to know if she agrees with Kern in trying to merge us with Phillipsburg."
Provide a source to back-up your statement that Kern proposes merging with Phillipsburg-or are you just putting out false information?
A little rough around the edges.....that is an understatement. I honestly want to know if Babinsky has Tourettes, I have personally seen him curse at a resident like a rapper. Babinsky hasn't done anything except increase your taxes. Mary Van Lieu whole running campaign is a "Positive New Direction." Why don't you try it instead of the same thing.
ReplyDeletePositive New Diretion???? What did she do for the Township last time. Babinsky has done alot for the whole township. Don't let your anger in just his attitude make your decision. He IS the best choice for the Township in these rough times. Our taxes also include school and county. Remember that. Babinsky did not raise your taxes single handed. Your new Mayor voted for the budget also. Just like it cost more to run a home, it costs more to run the Township.
ReplyDeleteBabinsky troll: I double-fact checked your statement regarding Kern and it is in fact false. Would you deny this? Then do your homework for a change.
ReplyDeleteMoving on...
No taxes do not have to go up unless you are completely bereft of ideas and no tough times do not require leadership that is arrogant, contemptuous, and tyrannical. History has provided with enough lessons on how that has worked out for the people.
Name calling that is adult of you. And you have the nerve to talk about the actions of others. And did you read the paper where Kern said he believes in a Merger. Was in black and white for all to see.
ReplyDeleteTroll: You said Kern supports merger with Phillipsburg. He does not. Remember I fact checked. You did not. Busted.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of merging municipalities is gaining traction with the public that is suffering from plummeting house values and spiraling real estate taxes. If studies can prove that there are tax-savings to be gained by this process then who in their right mind would be opposed? Unlike you, most taxpayers would be open to this idea.
I am not sure why Steve Babinsky dropped out of the Mayoral race earlier this year, but now wants to be on town council. I would be very interested in an answer to that, as someone fairly new to the town.
ReplyDeleteName calling again. Is that what VanLieu supporters have to revert to when someone does not agree with them. That is very sad if that is what this township had to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteSimple answer on mayoral race: order of finish would have been 1. Kern 2. Pagano 3. Babinsky
ReplyDeleteTroll: Did you ever hear the expression that when you have dug yourself into a hole that the first thing you should do is to stop digging?
ReplyDeleteYou came on this message board and posted lies. You were busted. Your credibility is zero. Move on.
I can on here to voice my opinion on what I READ in the PAPER. If what was in the paper was wrong maybe they should be told that they were wrong. And I did not dig myself into any hole, just speaking my opinion. It seems to me that you revert to name calling when someone does not agree with you. What have we gone back to high school. If this is what the people that want to run this township are like then we are all in for trouble. Sorry but I do not take to bullying, so try to work on someone else.
ReplyDeleteVan Lieu wins....
